Airport Observations
I’m back from my week and a half long hiatus. And what better way to commemorate this momentous return to blogging (okay, so
I’ll stop being so melodramatic now) than posting from an airport. In Dallas. In which I am stuck.
Here was my original itinerary: Honolulu to LA to Dallas to my college town. Unfortunately, the flight from LA got delayed, and my college town is serviced by this little bitty airport that maybe gets 20 flights a day in. So, instead of JUST rerouting me to a different flight at the same airport, I have to fly to CHICAGO before I can even get down to U o E.
On top of that, I’ll get in at least seven hours later than I would have originally. Grr… I also have a short story due tomorrow for my fiction writing class, but that’s neither here nor there… except for the part that it’s in a very, very rough form. But what can you do, I suppose.
So anyway, I’m paying $10 for three hours of wireless usage (OMG!), although, to be fair, it’s actually a day pass I’m using and not an actual by-hour payment. So I guess I shouldn’t be complaining.
But there is something interesting about sitting in an airport. No one really makes eye contact with anyone else, especially if they are (like me) traveling alone. And airports can be pretty big, little cities within themselves. Not just stop over places. Of course, buying ANYTHING from the airport is a lesson in stupidity, as everything (even McDonald’s Happy Meals) are over priced. Something about a “captive audience.” I thought that only happens in the Haunted Mansion at Disney World.
The strangest part about airports is the sheer number of mixed emotions people have. Some are heading somewhere exciting for vacation. Others are heading back home from their vacation. Some are heading back to college from a short visit to home (like me). And still others are impatiently waiting to visit their family because someone is in the hospital. So there’s a bit of excitement, some sadness, and some indifference. In what other place can you have so many different emotions at one time?
Oh, right. College.
Which is the place I have to go back to. Soon. But looking on the bright side… I only have two more months until I get home again.

Ugh. Don’t remind me (about the two months). This has been my fastest year in school ever and although that should be a good thing, it just means I have to be a “real” adult a lot sooner than I was planning.
Your blog ate my comment ; . ;
Yeah, I saw that. What did it say?
I have no idea anymore ; . ;
It was long, so I can’t remember the exact stuff. It might have gone along the lines of:
“*glomp*”
but I’m not sure exactly. Specifically, it may or may not have referenced a safe journey to elsewhere and elsewhen, since being stuck at an airport is probably not the most…desirous of destinations. And perhaps a final quip about airports being soul-stealing places where a glance into a stranger’s eyes may intrigue one, thereby leading to an embarrassing situation in which one misses a flight.
glad to hear you’re safe though.
