Cute Ways to Surprise Your Girl
I give credit to this post to whoever Googled “Cute Ways to Surprise Your Guy.” (I changed “guy” to “girl” because I happen to be a girl; it’s easier that way). I don’t know why I’ve never seen it mentioned, but Google searches are a great way to inspire a blogger whose energy is sapped due to a 24 hour blogathon. This is also not the first post inspired by a Google search. On to the list.
1. Flowers
Don’t diss the oldies but goodies. You know why flowers have lasted so long? Because someone told me (and you, and your girlfriend, and your girlfriend’s mother and father) that flowers scream romanticism, even while they sit prim and proper while your girlfriend sips tea. And no, I don’t mean pick dandelions on the side of the road and tie them together with those wire twisty-ties that come with supermarket baggies. I mean lovely forget-me-nots or roses bought from the store. They could be cheap flowers, but they can’t be picked off the sidewalk.
2. Bake her cake
Now, seriously, guys. I only foresee a problem with your cakebaking if you have a problem with reading and following directions that come on a Betty Crocker Moist Yellow Cake box. I’m not telling you to bake from scratch. Just learn how to crack a few eggs open, use a measuring cup, and voila! an edible treat that will make your girlfriend forget she’s angry at you. (What did you do this time? Don’t ask. Just bake.) Extra frosting equals extra sugar. Extra sugar equals even more happy girlfriend.
3. Write a poem
And unless your girlfriend happens to be the modern Emily Dickinson, she’ll appreciate it. Sure “Roses are red/violets are blue/insert random rhyme here” poems are nice, but take a little longer to think it through, right? I have a circle your options love poem, which may or may not help. I vote for a free verse poem that pretty much lists every good quality about her (and none of the bad). After all, what girl wouldn’t go all gooey-eyed at the line: “your breath reminds me of roses after the sun peeks out from blackened rainclouds” (even if she hasn’t smelled a rose in her life)?
4. Take a picture and e-mail it to her
What with all the digital cameras these days, taking a picture of yourself is easy. And of course she wants to see your face. I mean, she’s dating/married to you right? And if you’re fighting, make a sad puppy-dog face (if you can pull it off). You’ll win major points. Just know you probably won’t be able to win the fight.
5. Dedicate a blog/website just for her.
And, unless you have the genius of Chris Rhee, you probably will only have one reader: your girlfriend. (And anyway, My Mean Girl is about his girlfriend, not necessarily for her, but I really wouldn’t know…) But, that’s what this is about, right?
6. Buy/make a teddy bear or some equally cuddly stuffed animal
And then tell her, “You can name him after me, so we’ll always be together.” Awww…
7. Make an actress book
Not too hard for you, sir. Take the hottest actresses/singers of today (or yesterday, if you’re an Audrey Hepburn kind of man), place them in some kind of cheap album, and present it to your girlfriend. But this is the most important part: you have to say, “I think you are far more attractive than all of these girls, which makes me the luckiest guy in the world.” Who knows? It’s worth a shot.
That’s all. So what ways have you surprised your girlfriend?

How about…mailing yourself to her?
Perhaps not literally, but just putting some of yourself into a letter? I’m not talking a finger or strands of hair, but a candid picture of you doing something ordinary. Cooking, cleaning, doing the dishes, sleeping even (if you’re cute sleeping, bonus points…with a stuffed animal).
However, I think that there should be a small note which reminds us all that surprises have to be just that. These are the things that maybe, we don’t do every day, but once in a while to put the proverbial chili in the relationship curry. Okay, a strange idea, but curry is on my mind and I kind of want some.
In any case, I once had a personal journal in which I was required (yes, required) to write something to my girlfriend *flicks out his runtesque finger* about my life in general. Problems, ideas, things like that. It was nice to have something like that to make me feel like someone noticed anything. Maybe not understood, but listened to. And fine, if you must insist, it wasn’t with my girlfriend, but you get the picture.
Kit - I noticed that you searched for yourself on Google. (Not that this is relevant). But yes, the journaling does help quite a bit, doesn’t it?
[...] The title is one of the number one search engine terms that lead directly to Heartfulls. Actually, this search term gets pointed to this post which effectively (actually, that’s debatable) outlines some ways that a guy can surprise his girlfriend. [...]
get plastic spoons and draw hearts on about 100 of them and stick them in your boyfriends yard. when he wakes up in the morning to leave and see’s all the hearts, he will have a great surprise.
i just bought my girlfriend a promise ring and gave it to her during her class and the teacher made her read the poem i wrote on the board. After she read it i gave her the ring and she started to cry.
im trying to ask out a boy, i dont know how though. can i get some help?? i want him to be surpirsed and happy like he dint see it coming. i want him to think about it for the reat of the day!! anyone got any suggestions how i shoudl do it??
I did some things like, during night painted a big text on a wall in front of girls window “Katja my heart belongs to You!” or other night sticked about 1000 pink paper heartstickers on her car. Both mornings she was very surprised.
P.s. sorry for my english
The next time I meet my Girl Alyssa Ryan I will give her the lyrics to our song which is I don’t want to miss a thing by Aerosmith at the end of the song it will say how I really feel about her.
Personally I’m big on the poems idea. It doesnt take much and it doesnt even have to rhyme, but it gets them every time (no ironic pun intended). In terms of baking, try making a dinner for two. Again not hard if you can read. Boil some water, throw in some pasta, and your set. You dont even have have to make the sauce. buy the stuff in the jar and just heat it up, but make it look like you made it by heating it in a pan of sorts. set up some candles (they always love the candles), some music ( i like sanatra or billy holliday), dim the lights and tell her that you want her to come over to watch a movie. before she gets there dress up(dont get over dressed because then she will feel underdressed. a polo and nice jeans is fine), shave and throw on some nice cologne. Then sit back and enjoy the look on her face when she gets there.
For valentines day i spoke to the local flower shop and ask them if they could save some rose petals for me. After about a couple weeks of them saving i had enough to do my little surprise. She had to work this day so her house was open, i asked her roomate to let me and and told her what i was going to do. I spread the flowers out in a heart and the words I LOVE YOU, with a teddy bear and some chocolates at the top of the heart, also with a card, she was so happy she cried in my arms,
Let me tell you that is the happiest feeling
