Other ways to blog for charity?

I did the Blogathon this past July, and it was a good event. Bloggers stayed up for 24 hours (well, for about the last 5 or 6 I took naps between posts) earning money for their charity of choice.

But I’ve been wondering how blogging for charity could be done on my own blog throughout the year. Charity is not a one-day event. It should actually permeate every part of our life: being nice to other people, giving advice, anything.

I have some ideas though. Some of which are harder than the others. Some of which are easier.

  1. Start a blog specifically about volunteerism and what we can do in our community. Aimed at students in high school and college.
  2. Feature charities on this site and what they do, so people can be more informed about them.
  3. Have more site participation. Or make a network of bloggers who are willing to donate money to charity. It could be a fun game-like affair.
    • Bloggers would wager a donation to charity ($5 and up).
    • They would issue a challenge on my site about a blog topic.
    • Another blogger would take it up, and they’d have a week to post their topic.
    • Judges (or me, I guess) would choose the winning post. (Or some other scoring system)
    • The wagers would go to the charities of the winning blogger.

At least, I’d imagine the blogging challenge to go like that. I’m not really sure though. In this world, we absolutely need to help people. I’m just not sure how to do that. Any suggestions?
