What College is Really for
I return to U of E on Sunday, on an 8:30 pm flight. We fly to Arizona, then Detroit, then (after a six-hour layover… ugh) Evansville. And then I will again be sorely removed from my island home. But it’s not being away from the island so much as it is being away from my family.
And maybe college isn’t so much about learning science, math, and English and earning a degree.
Maybe it’s about learning how to be away. Learning how to adapt. Learning all those funky little lessons that you can’t learn from even the best professor.

If that’s the case, I really need to go to school in Japan.
But you’re right. College does teach a person how to be flexible, manage their time, be away from family and friends.
